Centennial High School’s girls basketball team in Nevada is fighting a ruling by the Nevada Interscholastic Athletic Association that requires them to forfeit 18 wins due to an ineligible player. Despite the player living within the school’s zoning area and playing for the football team since sophomore year, the NIAA deemed the player ineligible. The Bulldogs are appealing the decision, citing issues with the NIAA’s Register My Athlete system used to track player eligibility. Head coach Karen Weitz expressed disappointment in the decision and highlighted their reliance on administration for player clearance. Despite the setback, Centennial can still qualify for the playoffs by winning their remaining games and improving their record to 8-18. The Bulldogs finished their previous season with a 19-6 record and reached the state championship game. The team’s ranking in the Nevada On3 Composite Team Rankings is now in jeopardy following the ruling. Despite challenges, Centennial remains determined to overcome the setback and secure a spot in the playoffs.
