MAN Energy Solutions, based in Augsburg, Germany, has been chosen to provide a 50 MW methanation reactor for the Ren-Gas Tampere e-methane plant in Finland. This reactor, designed and manufactured at MAN Energy Solutions Deggendorf in Germany, will be used to convert green hydrogen and captured biogenic CO2 into renewable e-methane.
Ren-Gas, a leading green hydrogen and e-methane project developer in Finland, selected MAN Energy Solutions as a key technology provider for the Tampere Power-to-Gas project. The company will oversee the design, manufacturing, testing, delivery, installation, and commissioning of the equipment, ensuring that their advanced technology and expertise are utilized at every phase of the project.
Mikko Piekkala, Commercial Manager at Ren-Gas, expressed excitement about working with MAN Energy Solutions on the Tampere project, highlighting the efficiency and sector integration opportunities enabled by their methanation technology. Christian Obermeier, Sales Manager at MAN Energy Solutions Deggendorf, emphasized the company’s pioneering role in Power-to-Gas projects and their unique engineering expertise in methanation.
The Tampere facility is expected to produce renewable e-methane for heavy road and maritime transport sectors, using carbon dioxide captured from a waste incineration plant’s flue gases and green hydrogen. The project has received support from the Finnish Government and the EU, with construction set to begin in 2025 and commercial operation starting in 2027. Ren-Gas aims to advance the European hydrogen sector and contribute to sustainable transportation solutions with this innovative project.
