LIVE: President Trump Speaks at ‘No Tax on Tips’ Event in Las Vegas

President Donald Trump made a stop in Las Vegas to discuss his plans to exclude tips from federal taxes, a move aimed at benefiting hospitality workers who rely on gratuities. Trump delivered a speech at the Circa Resort & Casino, supported by the Culinary Union, which represents hospitality workers in Nevada. While the union appreciates the proposal, they feel it does not go far enough.

The visit to Las Vegas came after Trump’s tour of storm-damaged areas in North Carolina and wildfire-devastated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. In Nevada, Trump expressed gratitude for his supporters and touted his past electoral success in the state. The President also plans to continue discussing promises made during his campaign, focusing on the economy and tax policies.

The proposal to eliminate taxes on tips is expected to benefit millions of restaurant servers and other tipped workers across the country. Nevada, with its high concentration of tipped workers, stands to gain significantly from this policy change. However, implementing the plan would require Congressional approval and might take time to materialize.

The Culinary Union has expressed support for ending the $2.13 sub-minimum wage and ensuring fair wages for hospitality workers. They believe that addressing both taxation on tips and low wages is essential to improve the financial security of workers in the industry. Trump’s plans to scrap the taxation on tips are seen as a move in the right direction but there is a need to address broader issues affecting workers in the hospitality sector.
