Former Wisconsin chancellor sacked for pornography films sues in a bid to resume teaching career | Global News

Former University of Wisconsin-La Crosse chancellor, Joe Gow, who was fired over his involvement in the adult entertainment industry, has filed a federal lawsuit with hopes of being reinstated as a professor at the campus. Gow and his wife have produced and starred in online pornographic videos and published e-books about how porn enriches their relationship. Despite being terminated from his professor position, Gow argues that his free speech rights were violated and that the materials created were not obscene or illegal.

The lawsuit seeks to reinstate Gow as a professor and recover lost wages and damages. A faculty committee found that while it was not unethical for Gow to create pornographic videos, he exploited his faculty position to generate interest and revenue from them. The committee also criticized him for not disclosing information about a video made with adult film star Nina Hartley and for not being truthful about the e-books.

Gow maintains that he has a First Amendment right to speak on issues of public concern and that he did not use his public position to promote the controversial content. The lawsuit was filed on the first day of the spring semester at UW-La Crosse, with Gow asserting that he should be in the classroom teaching. University spokesperson Mark Pitsch did not respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit.
