Sierra Nevada Forums, along with the American Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, will be hosting a panel discussion on “Understanding Artificial Intelligence Now and in the Future”. The event will take place on Feb. 11 at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall in Carson City. The panel will be moderated by Timothy Galluzi, Chief Information Officer for the State of Nevada, who will provide an overview of AI history, everyday applications, ethical considerations, and relevant legislation.
Michael Hanna-Butros Meyering, Chief Communication and Policy Officer for the State of Nevada, will discuss regulatory policy and proposed legislative bill draft requests. Additionally, UNR Professor David Feil Seifer will cover research in robotics, human-robot interaction, machine learning, cybersecurity, and ethics, while Assistant Professor Ankita Shukla will demystify deep learning and machine learning with AI applications for science and social good.
The event will include a Q&A session for written questions from the audience. Future forums are planned for March 12 and May 13, 2025, with civil discourse as the topic for the March forum. Sierra Nevada Forums aims to provide citizens with factual information to make well-informed decisions, while the American Association of University Women advocates for gender equity through research, education, and advocacy.
