Nevada Women’s Basketball Falls to Weber State in Close Contest

RENO, Nev. — In a closely contested game on Saturday, Nevada women’s basketball faced Weber State at home, ultimately losing 66-62. A standout performance came from Lexie Givens, who not only secured 12 rebounds, but also moved into eighth place on Nevada’s all-time rebounding list. This double-digit rebound effort, combined with her 10 points, marked her first double-double of the season.

The Wolf Pack started strong, initially taking the lead with free throws from Dymonique Maxie. Nevada maintained control early in the first quarter but saw their advantage dwindle as the game progressed. By halftime, the team slipped behind, trailing 40-27 after a tied score of 23 late in the second quarter.

Nevada rallied in the third quarter, reducing a 15-point deficit to just six through a combination of free throws from Rakiyah Jackson and back-to-back layups by Audrey Roden and Izzy Sullivan. Givens contributed to the comeback with two crucial free throws, energizing the home crowd.

Entering the final quarter down 51-43, the Wolf Pack regained the lead with a three-pointer from Roden, making the score 57-56 with just over five minutes left. Despite their efforts to hold onto the lead, Weber State managed to edge out Nevada, sealing the win.

Roden, Maxie, and Jackson each tallied 11 points for the Wolf Pack, with Maxie also showcasing her defensive prowess by recording a season-high five steals. Jackson contributed with seven rebounds, while Olivia Poulivaati added six.

Looking ahead, Nevada will host Morgan State at 1 PM on Sunday, seeking to bounce back from this narrow defeat.
