President-elect Donald Trump has selected Russell Vought, a co-author of Project 2025, to lead the Office of Management and Budget. Trump praised Vought as being a cost-cutter and deregulator who will help implement the America First Agenda. Vought previously held the position during Trump’s first term, and his nomination was met with gratitude. In Project 2025, Vought argued for setting fiscal goals early in the budget development process to address government fiscal irresponsibility.
Despite distancing himself from Project 2025 during the campaign, Trump has selected several individuals associated with the initiative for positions in his administration. Vought’s confirmation would have him overseeing budget and policy execution across executive departments and agencies. Trump also announced other key Cabinet picks, including Scott Turner for housing and urban development secretary, Lori Chavez-DeRemer for labor secretary, Marty Makary for FDA commissioner, and Dave Weldon for CDC director. Sebastian Gorka, a former aide, was named as deputy assistant and senior director for counterterrorism.
Vought previously served as deputy director and acting director of the Office of Management before confirmation in July 2020. The selection of Vought and other individuals associated with Project 2025 reflects Trump’s commitment to implementing conservative policies in his administration.
