Nevada Wolf Pack Falls Short Against Vanderbilt in Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic
Reno, Nev. – The Nevada Wolf Pack suffered a narrow defeat against the Vanderbilt Commodores, ending with a score of 71-73 in their opening round of the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic. This loss brings Nevada’s season record to 4-1, while Vanderbilt improved to 5-0 with the victory.
In a tightly contested match, the Wolf Pack faced significant pressure from Vanderbilt’s defense, resulting in a season-high 16 turnovers. While Nevada started strong with a quick 12-3 run, the Commodores, known for their small-ball strategy, rallied back, showcasing improved shooting from beyond the arc, finishing with 40% on 15 attempts compared to their season average of 29%.
Key contributions came from Nevada’s Rolison and Sanders, both scoring 13 points, alongside Brandon Love with 11 points and Davidson adding 9. However, the Commodores maintained their edge, with Hoggard leading Vanderbilt with 18 points, solidifying their performance in the second half.
Despite falling behind by 10 points in the second half, Nevada managed to close the gap to just two points in the final minutes, ending with a near buzzer-beater attempt that fell short.
