Nevada Legal Services Kiosk Project Expands, Enhancing Access to Legal Resources
The Nevada Legal Services Kiosk Project, initiated last year, has successfully expanded its reach from 22 to 26 sites across the state, adding four new kiosks in public libraries. This initiative aims to bolster communities by advocating for fairness and equal access to justice for low-income residents of Nevada.
These user-friendly and complimentary legal kiosks serve as vital portals, particularly beneficial for senior citizens and individuals with limited access to technology. The kiosks are equipped with resources that enable community members to access free legal information forms, locate legal aid services, and find other valuable community resources. Additionally, users can print documents, participate in online meetings, and attend remote court hearings.
Susan L. Myers, Esq., Director of Litigation and Project Manager for the Nevada Legal Kiosk Project, expressed enthusiasm regarding the impact of the kiosks. “The feedback has been tremendously positive,” she said, highlighting ongoing communication with library staff to ensure the kiosks meet community needs. “This free access to legal information and resources is filling a gap,” she added, emphasizing the importance of expanding the project to reach more Nevadans.
The kiosks provide curated information on critical legal matters, including housing issues, divorce and custody, protection orders, guardianship, healthcare, financial powers of attorney, debt collection, and veterans’ resources. Kiosks are available in both English and Spanish at all library locations during operating hours.
