Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada Invites Community to Volunteer and Give Back This Holiday Season

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – As the holiday season approaches, Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada is gearing up to engage the community through various volunteer opportunities and donation drives. CEO Marie Baxter recently highlighted these initiatives during a segment on Morning Break.

Among the key events is the Dragon Lights Toy Drive running from November 18-21, followed by the Gathering Together/Thanksgiving Meal Basket pickups from November 18-23. Community support is also sought for the Knights of Columbus Coat Drive on November 23. On Thanksgiving Day, November 28, St. Vincent’s Dining Room, in collaboration with the Nugget Casino Resort, will serve a free holiday meal to those in need, with additional meals provided to the CARES Campus.

The organization is encouraging donations for #GivingTuesday on December 3, which officially launches the charitable giving season. Contributions made to St. Vincent’s Dining Room will support Reno’s original soup kitchen as they work to feed the hungry.

Additionally, the Operation Stocking Stuffer (OSS) initiative aims to collect stockings for children aged infancy to 18 years by a deadline of December 6. With the goal of reaching over 2,000 registered recipients, each stocking should be valued at no more than $25, marked for age and gender specificity.

Ongoing volunteer opportunities are available through Holidays are for Helping as well as shopping at St. Vincent’s Thrift Stores, which provide both community support and unique gift options for the holiday season.

Inspired by a generous $30,000 matching gift from Western Nevada Supply and anonymous donors, contributions made before December 3 will be matched, amplifying the impact of community support as Catholic Charities aims to provide a joyful holiday experience for all.
