President-elect Donald Trump has secured a victory in the swing state of Nevada, adding six electoral votes to his win in the 2024 presidential race. The Associated Press called the race for Trump early Saturday, marking a significant shift from Democratic wins in the state in recent elections.
In the 2020 election, Joe Biden won Nevada by a narrow margin of 2.4%, continuing a trend of Democratic presidential victories in the state. However, Trump’s success in flipping Nevada reflects a changing political landscape.
Republicans surprised many by outperforming Democrats in early in-person voting and closing the gap with registered voters leading up to Election Day. The state’s Democratic advantage in turnout has traditionally been driven by the “Reid Machine,” a resource-sharing network established by former Senator Harry Reid.
Both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned heavily in Nevada in the lead-up to the election. Harris pledged to seek common ground and listen to experts if elected, while Trump focused on tapping into non-traditional networks of support, including the influential Culinary Union.
In addition to the presidential race, Nevada also saw a competitive Senate race between Republican Sam Brown and Democratic incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen, which was called for Rosen on Saturday morning.
The outcome in Nevada underscores the evolving political landscape and the diverse strategies employed by candidates to secure victory in a key battleground state.
