City Provides Update on Proposed Changes to the Nevada and Platte Avenue Intersection

Press Release: Family Calls for Changes at Dangerous Intersection in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The intersection near the Palmer Statue is drawing urgent attention following the tragic death of Bobbie Romero’s father due to a left turn by another driver. On Sunday, Romero advocated for change at the perilous intersection, emphasizing the need for city officials to engage with families affected by traffic incidents. "The city of Colorado Springs needs to listen to us," she stated, urging local leaders to understand the profound impact of such tragedies.

Despite recent safety measures, such as the addition of no left turn signs, drivers continue to ignore these regulations, creating a hazardous environment for both vehicles and pedestrians. According to Traffic Engineer Todd Frisbee, the city is currently assessing potential traffic flow alterations, a process expected to take at least six months, with no immediate changes planned.

Witnesses have voiced their concerns about the intersection’s safety, particularly during peak hours when the risk of accidents rises. “There’s a blind spot during the lunch rush, which makes it even more dangerous,” voiced local resident Amara de la Rosa, reflecting the sentiments of many who traverse the area daily.

In a separate issue, Colorado Springs Police recently arrested two 14-year-old boys implicated in a series of smash-and-grab burglaries across the city. The arrests on November 8 led to the youths being placed in the Zebulon Pike Youth Services Center as investigations proceed.

As community concerns mount, both issues underscore the pressing need for enhanced safety measures and law enforcement vigilance to ensure the well-being of residents in Colorado Springs.
