President-elect Donald Trump secured a victory in Nevada, winning the state and its six electoral votes, marking the first time a Republican has carried the state since George W. Bush in 2004. While most of the counties in Nevada are rural and leaned heavily towards Trump, Democrat Joe Biden was able to win the two most populous counties, including Clark County where Las Vegas is located. Both Trump and his Democratic opponent Vice-President Kamala Harris made multiple campaign stops in the state leading up to the election.
With this win, Trump’s total electoral vote count now stands at 301, compared to 226 for Ms. Harris. The Associated Press declared Trump the winner in Nevada, bringing his total of battleground states won to six out of seven. Arizona remains the only state yet to be decided.
Following the win in Nevada, Trump appointed his campaign lead Susie Wiles as his chief of staff, making her the first woman to hold the position at the White House. Trump has also received congratulatory calls from world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who spoke to Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk during a call. Trump assured support for Ukraine, while Musk pledged to continue supplying Starlink satellite services that have been crucial for the country’s defense efforts. The call took place at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, where Trump and Musk were present.
