Burglars broke into the grounds of Windsor Castle in October and stole two vehicles belonging to the Crown Estate. The estate is the primary residence of Prince William, Princess Kate, and their family. Thames Valley Police received a report of the burglary and stated that the offenders made off with a black Izuzu pickup and a red quad bike. No arrests have been made, and an investigation is ongoing. William, Kate, and their children live nearby in Adelaide Cottage, while King Charles III and Queen Camilla reside in Clarence House in London. Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace did not immediately respond to requests for comment. This is not the first security breach in Windsor, with a man armed with a crossbow climbing a fence on Christmas Day in 2021. He claimed he wanted to kill Queen Elizabeth II, who was at the castle at the time. The man was sentenced to nine years in prison for treason, possession of an offensive weapon, and making threats to kill. NBC News royal contributor Emily Nash noted the concern of such incidents in areas expected to be secure, stating that places like Windsor Castle will always be targets for criminals.
