Studio Berlin has recently completed its Ü6 Renewal project by replacing its long-standing Ü6 HDTV outside broadcast (OB) truck with a modern, permanently installed control room at its Hamburg facility. The new control room boasts cutting-edge AoIP solutions from Lawo, along with a Ravenna network, to streamline workflows and enhance production flexibility.
The Ü6 OB truck had been a crucial asset in Studio Berlin’s fleet for many years, but as technology evolved, it could no longer meet modern requirements. Therefore, the decision was made to retire the OB van and establish a permanent control room at the Hamburg site instead.
The new control room features two Lawo mc²36 all-in-one audio mixing consoles with integrated Lawo A__UHD Core technology, providing immense processing power in a compact setup. This setup allows for 256 processing channels and 864 channels of I/O capacity, with native IP connectivity and plug-and-play operation.
With the integration of three Lawo A__mic8 stageboxes via Ravenna, the system allows for flexible and lossless signal distribution, enabling technicians to access or feed signals from anywhere in the network.
This upgrade has significantly increased production flexibility, as Hamburg now boasts two identical control rooms that can operate simultaneously and handle any production independently of the studio. The Ravenna network enables quick response to any audio requirement.
Matthias Hitz, the technical director at Studio Berlin’s Hamburg location, expressed excitement about the future possibilities that Lawo’s technology offers. The partnership with Lawo has positioned Studio Berlin for future media production developments, providing the flexibility and efficiency needed to remain at the forefront of the industry.
