Joe Birnbaum, Truckee’s deadly offensive weapon, chooses Nevada for football career

Truckee High School’s standout player, Joe Birnbaum, has committed to playing Division I football at the University of Nevada. Birnbaum, the reigning Player of the Year in the 3A North division, received an offer from the Wolf Pack and has verbally committed to join the team as a running back. Throughout the 2023 season, Birnbaum averaged over 150 total yards per game and scored 32 touchdowns, leading his team to victory in the 3A State title game.

Birnbaum’s journey to the Division I level faced a setback when he suffered a serious ankle injury that required surgery and sidelined him for five weeks. After making a successful comeback and scoring three touchdowns in his first game back, Birnbaum’s resilience and determination to play at the next level were evident. Despite having other interests and responsibilities, Birnbaum felt that playing college football was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that he couldn’t pass up, especially after experiencing the uncertainty of being sidelined due to injury.

With his commitment to the University of Nevada, Birnbaum looks forward to representing his hometown of Truckee and being close to his family. His decision to stay home and play for Nevada was influenced by the strong interest and support he felt from the coaching staff. As Birnbaum prepares to lead his team in the upcoming state championship game, his commitment and passion for the game are stronger than ever as he looks to make his mark at the Division I level.
