Dallas Wings Claim Top Pick in 2025 WNBA Draft Lottery
In a thrilling conclusion to the 2025 WNBA Draft Lottery held on Sunday, the Dallas Wings emerged victorious, securing the coveted No. 1 overall pick for the second time in their history. The franchise previously held the top selection in 2021, choosing Charli Collier, who spent just two seasons in the league. This time, the Wings are poised to make a significant impact by possibly drafting UConn standout Paige Bueckers, who is expected to be available.
The Los Angeles Sparks, who maintained the best odds at 44.2% for the top pick, will settle for the No. 2 selection for the second consecutive year. The Chicago Sky, impacted by a pick swap with the Wings, will draft third, followed by the Washington Mystics.
Additionally, next season will see the introduction of the Golden State Valkyries, the league’s new expansion team, which will begin play in 2025. They are set to make their debut in the draft with the fifth pick, also holding selections at Nos. 17 and 30 in following rounds. The Valkyries will begin building their roster during the expansion draft on December 6.
A notable development ahead of the draft is the Las Vegas Aces having their 2025 first-round pick rescinded due to violations regarding impermissible player benefits, reducing the first round from 13 to 12 selections.
While the exact date for the 2025 WNBA Draft remains unspecified, it is expected to occur in mid-April, following the conclusion of the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. The draft order has been finalized and will set the stage for an exciting offseason for teams and players alike.
