Nevada Volleyball Falls to UNLV in Thrilling Match Before Record Crowd
Reno, NV – In an exhilarating showdown at the Virginia Street Gym, Nevada Volleyball faced off against in-state rival UNLV in front of a record crowd of 1,206, marking one of the highest attendances in nearly two decades. Despite a spirited effort, the Wolf Pack fell short in a competitive 3-1 match, bringing their overall record to 12-15 and 5-11 in Mountain West Conference play.
The match began with Nevada faltering in the first set due to missed serves, allowing UNLV to take an early lead and ultimately win the set 25-20. However, the Wolf Pack rallied in the second set, fighting back with a 5-1 start. Despite a strong performance from Gabby McLaughlin and a crucial service ace by McLaughlin, UNLV clawed back to snatch the set 25-23.
In a display of determination, Nevada surged in the third set. McLaughlin’s offensive prowess and Sierra Bernard’s service aces propelled the team to a comeback, leading to a 25-21 win for the Wolf Pack. Yet, UNLV regrouped in the fourth set, maintaining a narrow lead throughout. Despite a herculean effort from Nevada’s defense, including a career-high six block assists from McKenna Dressel, the Rebels secured the match by taking the final set 25-20.
McLaughlin was notable for her offensive contributions, ending with 14 kills and 10 digs. Tehya Maeva provided vital playmaking with 28 assists, while Kinsley Singleton led the defense with 24 digs.
As the season nears its end, the Wolf Pack now shifts focus to the final week of conference play.
