The Nevada Wolf Pack men’s basketball team dominated Saint Clara on Saturday night, securing an impressive 85-59 victory and marking the squad’s fourth win of the season. This game was particularly significant for sixth-year head coach Steve Alford, as he celebrated his 100th win at Nevada—adding to his successful coaching tenures at Iowa, New Mexico, and UCLA.
From the outset, Nevada showcased its offensive prowess, running out to a quick 10-2 lead within the first three minutes. Key contributors included Xavier DuSell, who sank his first two three-pointers early in the game, helping the Wolf Pack extend their lead to 19-7 midway through the first half. The team maintained momentum, going on another 10-3 run to push their advantage to 19 points, leading by as many as 23 before heading into halftime with a commanding 47-26 lead.
The second half saw both teams trading baskets, but Nevada’s robust defense prevailed, further expanding their lead to as much as 34 points. The Wolf Pack managed an impressive shooting performance, hitting 56.3% from the field and 47.4% from beyond the arc, while limiting Santa Clara to just 39.7% and a mere 11.8% from three.
Tre Coleman led the scoring for Nevada with 21 points, supported by strong performances from Nick Davidson (18), Brandon Love (15), and DuSell (11). With a perfect 4-0 start to the season for the third consecutive year, Nevada is gearing up for the Charleston Classic MTE, with their next challenge against the Vanderbilt Commodores (4-0) scheduled for Thursday at 4:30 p.m. PST on ESPNU.
