Las Vegas resident seeking help in break-in was tragically shot by officer while on call to 911

Las Vegas police are investigating the fatal shooting of 43-year-old Brandon Durham, who had called 911 for help during a home break-in. Durham reported two people shooting outside his home and trying to break in while he was inside with his 15-year-old daughter. Body camera footage showed officers kicking down the door and encountering a struggle between Durham and a suspect, Alejandra Boudreaux. The officer commanded Durham to drop a knife and then fired his gun, resulting in Durham’s death. Boudreaux was arrested and faces multiple charges related to the incident. The police believe the incident was targeted and not random. The officer’s use of force is being reviewed according to the standard set by the Supreme Court’s decision in Graham v. Connor. Durham’s daughter expressed anger at the police department for the loss of her father. The incident was described as being fueled by extreme anger and violence.
