Former President Donald Trump has won the state of Nevada, reclaiming it for the Republicans for the first time since 2004. Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris both made campaign stops in the state this year, with most rural counties heavily supporting Trump in the 2020 election. However, Democrat Joe Biden won the two most populous counties, Washoe and Clark.
In addition to Trump’s victory, Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., was also reelected, defeating Republican challenger Sam Brown. Rosen campaigned on issues such as lowering costs for the middle class, defending abortion rights, and addressing the climate crisis. She introduced legislation over the summer to allow extreme heat to qualify as a disaster under federal law.
The Associated Press declared Trump and Rosen the winners in Nevada at 12:15 a.m. EST. This victory is significant as Nevada is considered a presidential battleground state, and Trump’s win marks the first time the state has voted Republican in nearly two decades. The results indicate a shifting political landscape in Nevada and could have implications for future elections in the state.
