Denver Public Schools (DPS) is taking steps to enhance communication during emergency situations through the implementation of CrisisGo, a new technology designed to streamline response efforts. The initiative is part of the district’s commitment to ensuring the safety of students and staff. Kip Sixbery, emergency manager for DPS, emphasized the importance of effective communication during critical incidents, noting that schools desired better access to information and communication during emergencies. Prior to the introduction of CrisisGo, there was no efficient way for staff and students to communicate with safety officers. With CrisisGo, users can immediately send alerts to all members of the school community, improving response time and resource allocation. The app provides a platform for two-way communication between safety officers, students, staff, and parents, allowing for real-time updates and information sharing during emergencies. This technology enables first responders to focus on the situation at hand while also providing relief to those involved in the incident. While currently only available to school staff, DPS plans to expand access to students and parents in the future. This innovative approach to crisis response showcases DPS’s proactive efforts to prioritize safety and improve emergency communication within the district.
