Veterans in the Reno-Sparks area have a number of events to look forward to in the coming weeks. The University of Nevada is hosting a Salute to Service game at Mackay Stadium on November 2nd, with discounted tickets available for veterans and military personnel. Veterans can also enjoy free breakfasts on Veterans Day, participate in parades in Virginia City and Reno, and attend a pancake breakfast in Carson City. Additionally, a BBQ fundraiser for veterans will take place at Vet Mech Arms in Fernley on November 11th.
Other upcoming events include the Association of the United States Army’s Veterans Day dinner featuring Maj. Gen. Ondra Berry, and the Vietnam Veterans of America’s Camos to Classroom scholarship program on November 16th in Reno. The annual Wreaths Across America program is also raising funds to place wreaths on veterans’ graves at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley on December 14th.
The Caregiver Support Program has launched a series of videos and tip sheets to assist caregivers of veterans with safe transfers. Veterans Upward Bound at Truckee Meadows Community College is available to assist veterans with academic advisement and college applications. In addition, the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) station in Carson City offers improved access for uniformed service members.
