Possible Connection Found Between Two Shootings at Minneapolis Homeless Camps Resulting in Three Deaths

Police in Minneapolis are investigating two weekend shootings at homeless encampments that left three people dead and three others wounded. The first shooting occurred early Saturday morning, killing one man and injuring two others. The second shooting took place on Sunday afternoon, where two men were killed and a woman was critically wounded. Police are considering the possibility that the two shootings may be connected.

No arrests have been made in either shooting, and police are investigating the possibility of suspects who fled the scene on foot. Mayor Jacob Frey blamed the surge in violence near homeless encampments on fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that has been linked to a majority of drug overdose deaths in recent years.

The victims of the shootings have been identified as Deven Leonard Caston, Louis Lemons Jr., and Christopher Washington, all of whom died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara called the shootings “outrageous” and emphasized the need for residents of homeless encampments to accept available resources to help address the issues of narcotics and mental health. O’Hara stated that encampments are not safe, and that efforts must be made to end the cycle of violence in these areas.
