Nevada volleyball players take a stand for women’s sports at rally

Nevada volleyball players took a stand against the inclusion of biological males in female sports at a rally organized by the Independent Council on Women’s Sports on October 26. The players were supposed to play against San Jose State that day but forfeited the game due to protest against a male player on the opposing team.

Team captain Sia Liilii and other players spoke out against the physical dangers and unfairness of allowing males to compete in female sports. They criticized the NCAA and the Mountain West Conference for their policies and urged them to prioritize the safety and opportunities of female athletes.

Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony and women’s sports activist Riley Gaines also supported the players at the rally and called for legislation to prevent males from participating in female sports. The Independent Council for Women’s Sports is funding a lawsuit against these rules, with San Jose’s team captain also joining the legal battle against the NCAA.

Despite facing backlash and fear of controversy, Liilii expressed empathy towards the transgender player on the San Jose team, emphasizing the importance of standing up for female athletes while also recognizing the struggles faced by individuals on the other side of the issue.

The rally served as a platform for the Nevada players to advocate for the integrity and fairness of women’s sports, and their message resonated with supporters who believe in preserving the sanctity of competition for female athletes.
