The U.S. Army released a redacted police report detailing a “simple assault” incident in August involving a Trump campaign staffer at Arlington National Cemetery. The report stated that the staffer used both hands while trying to move past a cemetery worker who had tried to stop them from taking photos. The worker did not require medical attention on scene and refused it later. The worker also did not want to press charges. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond for comment on the report. American Oversight had sued for the report’s release, which was ordered by a judge.
The incident occurred when Trump was at the cemetery for a wreath-laying ceremony commemorating U.S. service members killed by ISIS in Afghanistan. The Trump campaign aide reportedly pushed the cemetery employee who was trying to enforce photo restrictions in Section 60. The Army previously considered the matter closed. Former White House chief of staff John Kelly recently criticized Trump, calling him a “fascist” and saying he praised Hitler. Trump has denied making those remarks. The release of the police report sheds light on the incident at Arlington National Cemetery involving the Trump campaign staffer.
