Entrepreneur Mark Cuban, campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris, reassured Arizona entrepreneurs that Harris would not tax unrealized gains as part of a tax plan she has endorsed. Cuban criticized the proposal for a 25% minimum tax on total income exceeding $100 million, including unrealized gains, calling it an “economy killer.” Former President Donald Trump has labeled the idea as communism. While Harris has endorsed President Joe Biden’s 2025 budget proposal, she has not specifically addressed taxing unrealized gains. Cuban warned that if she were to implement such a tax, he would campaign against her. He also criticized Biden-Harris immigration policies, saying they had “screwed up” in that area. Other surrogates for the campaign, such as actor Bryan Cranston, have also deviated from the typical Democratic talking points. Cuban, known for his outspoken opinions, has become a draw for the Harris-Walz campaign, offering a different perspective than traditional politicians. Harris, in an exclusive interview, emphasized the importance of loyalty between vice presidents and presidents, suggesting she would not publicly criticize Biden. While Cuban stated that every conversation he’s had indicates that taxing unrealized gains would not happen, he clarified that he does not speak for Harris or the campaign on this issue.
