Residents across northern Nevada will have the opportunity to safely dispose of expired or unused medications at various drug take back events happening this Saturday. This initiative is aimed at reducing the risk of prescription drug abuse and protecting the environment by preventing drugs from being flushed down the toilet or thrown in the trash.
The events are being organized by local law enforcement agencies in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and are part of a nationwide effort to address the growing opioid crisis. By providing a safe and convenient way for individuals to dispose of their medications, organizers hope to prevent these drugs from falling into the wrong hands.
In addition to prescription medications, residents can also dispose of over-the-counter medications, pet medications, vitamins, and supplements. Sharps and needles will not be accepted at these events.
Residents are encouraged to bring their medications in their original containers if possible, but they can also bring them in plastic bags for disposal. All medications collected will be incinerated in accordance with environmental regulations.
There will be multiple locations across northern Nevada where residents can drop off their medications, including police departments, sheriff’s offices, and other participating agencies. The events will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, providing ample opportunity for residents to participate.
These drug take back events offer a safe and responsible way for residents to dispose of their medications, reducing the risk of misuse while also protecting the environment. Organizers urge all residents to take advantage of this opportunity to clean out their medicine cabinets and ensure the safe disposal of their medications.
