Amazon ventures into live news with election night special hosted by Brian Williams

Amazon announced that it will host an election night special anchored by Brian Williams on Prime Video on November 5th, marking the company’s first venture into live news coverage. The special will be a non-partisan presentation, featuring election results and analysis from various third-party sources. Williams will lead the special, conducting interviews with analysts from across the political spectrum. Viewers will not need a Prime subscription to access the stream.

Williams, who left NBC News in 2021 after 28 years, expressed his excitement about this new opportunity on Amazon, calling it the next big thing in his career. Amazon has been expanding into live sports programming to boost subscriptions and increase revenue, recently signing a deal to carry NBA games. They also stream “Thursday Night Football” games and certain NHL games.

Amazon’s move into news coverage aims to position the company as a growing home for news viewers, offering streaming news channels on Prime Video from various networks including ABC News Live, CNN Headlines, FOX’s LiveNOW, and NBC News Now. This initiative comes as Amazon looks to diversify its content offerings and become a one-stop shop for a variety of entertainment options. NBC and CNBC are divisions of NBCUniversal, which is closely associated with Brian Williams.
