The World Health Organization has raised an alarm about the increasing attacks on health care workers in Lebanon, with 24 attacks resulting in 27 deaths and 55 injuries so far. This comes amid a ramped up offensive by Israel, with smoke billowing from the site of an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defied international calls for a cease-fire and vowed to continue hitting Hezbollah “with all our might,” despite calls for a 21-day cease-fire along the Israel-Lebanon border. The health ministry in Lebanon reported that 92 people were killed and 154 injured in Israeli raids across southern, central, and eastern Lebanon within a 24-hour period, bringing the total death toll to over 700 since the start of the new aerial offensive on Monday. Despite the ongoing violence, Israel has expressed willingness to engage in discussions regarding a U.S.-led cease-fire proposal and appreciates the efforts made in this regard. The situation in Lebanon remains tense and the safety and well-being of health care workers continue to be at risk.
