Washoe County Registrar of Voters Cari-Ann Burgess to Go on Leave of Absence – KTVN

Interim Washoe County Registrar of Voters Cari-Ann Burgess has announced that she will be taking a leave of absence. Burgess, who has been serving in the position since April 2021, made the decision in order to focus on her health and well-being.

During her time as interim registrar, Burgess oversaw several elections, including the special election for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District. She has been credited with successfully navigating the challenges of conducting elections during the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring that voters had access to safe and secure voting options. Under her leadership, the Registrar of Voters office also implemented new technology and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy in the election process.

Burgess expressed gratitude for the staff at the Registrar of Voters office, as well as the community for their support during her interim tenure. She stated that she is confident in the team’s ability to continue the important work of preparing for upcoming elections in her absence.

The Washoe County Commission will now appoint an interim registrar to fill Burgess’s role while she is on leave. The process for selecting a new interim registrar is expected to take place in the coming weeks.

Burgess’s leave of absence comes at a critical time for the Registrar of Voters office, as they prepare for the upcoming general election in November. The office will continue their work to ensure that all eligible voters in Washoe County have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process. Burgess’s dedication to voter access and election integrity has been commendable, and her presence will be missed during her absence.
