Russian strikes hit high-rise apartment blocks in Ukraine’s Kharkiv, leaving dozens wounded in the second consecutive night-time attack this week. Two residential buildings were destroyed and seven more damaged in the Shevchenkivsky district on Saturday night. Among the wounded were an eight-year-old, two 17-year-olds, and several older adults. This follows another assault on Friday that injured 15 people, including children.
These attacks involved the use of KAB-type aerial glide bombs, a Soviet weapon that has been devastating eastern Ukraine for months. Russian airstrikes also included 80 Shahed drones and two missiles. Ukrainian air defence successfully shot down 71 drones and lost six due to electronic warfare countermeasures.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed concern over the escalating violence, stating that Russia had launched 900 guided aerial bombs, 400 drones, and nearly 30 missiles in the past week. He emphasized the need to strengthen defense capabilities to protect lives and ensure safety. Kharkiv’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov, condemned the attacks and called for international support to address the ongoing crisis.
The international community has criticized Russia’s actions, with many calling for an immediate end to the violence in Ukraine. As civilians continue to suffer the consequences of the conflict, efforts to provide aid and support to those affected are ongoing.
