The FBI, along with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Investigation Division and Coast Guard Investigative Services, conducted law enforcement activity on a vessel managed by the same companies that were involved in the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The Maersk Saltoro, owned by Grace Ocean Private Limited and operated by Synergy Marine Group, was boarded by authorities following the incident that resulted in the bridge collapsing and killing six construction workers. The cargo ship Dali, also owned and managed by the same companies, struck a support pillar of the bridge, causing it to snap due to a power loss that left the ship without propulsion to steer away from the bridge’s piers. The National Transportation Safety Board reported that the ship had experienced power losses before the incident. A lawsuit filed by the U.S. Justice Department alleged that the companies ignored electrical problems on the Dali prior to the crash. The FBI stated they were conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity on the vessel, but did not provide further details. NBC News reached out to the companies and government agencies involved for comment, while the Environmental Protection Agency declined to comment on the matter.
