Politicians from both parties, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, expressed condolences after the bodies of six hostages, including an American citizen, were recovered by the Israeli Defense Forces. Many politicians referred to Hamas as a terrorist organization responsible for the deaths of the hostages. Former President Donald Trump criticized Biden and Harris for the deaths. Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle condemned Hamas and called for the safe return of hostages. World leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, also called for an end to the war and the release of all hostages. Over 1,200 people were killed in Israel during the terrorist attack on Oct. 7, with around 250 being taken hostage. Negotiations for a cease-fire to secure the release of hostages have not been successful, leading to protests in Tel Aviv and continued calls for the hostages to come home safely. The international community is united in its condemnation of Hamas and its demand for an end to the conflict and the release of all hostages.
