The Nevada State Supreme Court has declined to intervene in the certification of votes in Washoe County. The decision comes following a lawsuit filed by a Republican state Senate candidate who claimed that the county’s vote counting machines were not properly calibrated.
The candidate in question, Heidi Gansert, had sought to delay the certification of votes in the county until an investigation could be carried out to determine if the machines had been improperly calibrated. However, the State Supreme Court dismissed the lawsuit, ruling that there was no evidence to support Gansert’s claims.
Washoe County Registrar of Voters Deanna Spikula stated that the county’s voting machines had undergone rigorous testing prior to the election and that there was no indication of any issues with their calibration. The County Board of Commissioners also voted to certify the election results, further cementing the validity of the process.
Despite the court’s ruling, Gansert expressed disappointment with the decision, stating that she believed there were still unresolved issues with the vote counting machines. However, she respected the court’s decision and would accept the certification of the votes.
The decision by the State Supreme Court to not intervene in Washoe County’s vote certification brings an end to the legal battle over the election results in the county. With the certification now complete, the results will be forwarded to the Nevada Secretary of State’s office for final verification.
