Guardiola affirms Manchester City’s commitment to accepting verdicts on alleged rule breaches

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that the club will accept the verdict of the independent commission regarding the 115 alleged breaches of financial regulations brought against them by the Premier League. The charges, dating back to 2009, were brought against the champions in February 2023 and the case is set to be heard this autumn. Guardiola emphasized that the upcoming hearing will not affect his players’ form as they focus on their matches, including their goal of winning a fifth successive Premier League title.

City confirmed the return of Ilkay Gündogan to the club from Barcelona, with the 33-year-old set to be in the matchday squad for the upcoming game against Ipswich Town pending international clearance. Guardiola stated that Gündogan will have to fight for his place in the team like every other player and perform well to maintain his spot.

Midfielder Rodri, who missed City’s opening win over Chelsea, is a doubt for the Ipswich game due to injury. Guardiola mentioned that Rodri still has some niggles from an injury sustained with the national team and his availability for the match will depend on his recovery. Despite this, Guardiola remains focused on the upcoming matches and the performance of his players on the field.
