Dr. Oumair Aejaz, a Detroit-area doctor, has been charged with secretly filming women and children at the hospital where he worked using hidden cameras over a six-year period. The recordings included children as young as two and women recovering from operations in various hospital rooms, changing rooms, closets, bathrooms, and bedrooms. Aejaz faces multiple charges, including sexual abuse of a child and creating child sexual abuse material. Sheriff Michael Bouchard called it one of the most disturbing sexual predator cases he has ever seen.
The exact number of victims is unknown due to the large volume of recordings, but measures are being taken to investigate further. Both hospitals where Aejaz had privileges, Henry Ford Macomb Hospital and Ascension Genesys Hospital, are cooperating with authorities. A raid on Aejaz’s home uncovered thousands of videos dating back six years, and it is estimated to take six months to fully examine all the seized devices.
Aejaz, originally from India, came to the United States in 2011 and worked as an internal medicine specialist in Michigan before moving to Alabama and eventually returning to Oakland County in 2018. The investigation into Aejaz’s actions may expand beyond Michigan to other states and countries, as detectives work to identify more possible victims. Victims or anyone with information can contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for assistance. Henry Ford Macomb Hospital stated they have taken immediate action to prevent Aejaz from practicing within their health system.
