Liberty football coach Rich Muraco had to make adjustments to his summer practice schedule due to a record heat wave in Las Vegas. To manage the heat, practice sessions were scheduled between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. with a focus on gradually acclimating players to the hot weather. Nevada teams began their official practices with heat acclimation periods before moving on to non-contact drills. Some teams will have less than three weeks to prepare for their season openers, while others have a bit more time. Legacy coach Zach Monticelli is confident in his team’s ability to quickly transition into game prep despite the short time in pads. Bishop Gorman, ranked No. 2 in MaxPreps’ preseason poll, has a tough nonconference schedule lined up and is eager to see how sharp their team is in the first week of practice. Gorman has been practicing during warmer times of the day to prepare for early season games. Liberty was initially looking for a Week 0 opponent in Hawaii but had to take a bye week instead. New Desert Pines head coach Jose Flores is excited to see which players will step up and compete when the pads come on. It has been a challenging summer for high school teams in Nevada, but coaches and players are ready to hit the field and kick off the new season.
