In the latest installment of the Silver State Series rivalry between Nevada and UNLV, the southern rivals from UNLV emerged victorious with a 31.5-16.5 margin, the third-largest margin of victory since the competition began in 2012-13. Despite closing the gap in recent years with back-to-back wins, Nevada was unable to catch up to UNLV this time around. UNLV has now won nine out of the 12 competitions since the series was established by former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval in 2012.
The competition includes points awarded for victories in various sports as well as academic achievements, with three points available in each sport and for the academic progress report. UNLV claimed wins in several sports including football, women’s basketball, and women’s golf, while Nevada secured victories in men’s basketball and men’s golf. The two schools split points in volleyball, baseball, and softball.
With UNLV currently leading with 25.5 points to Nevada’s 19.5 points, the final three points for the Academic Progress Report scores are yet to be awarded. The Silver State Series has been a highly anticipated annual competition between the only two Division I departments in Nevada and has seen a mix of victories for both schools over the years. Fans will have to wait until the Academic Progress Report scores are announced to determine the final outcome of this year’s competition.
