At a Minnesota rally, former President Donald Trump targeted President Joe Biden, despite no longer being his 2024 opponent. Trump mocked Biden’s golf game, cognitive ability, and performance at events, also criticizing his son Hunter and calling the president names. He focused on attacking Vice President Kamala Harris as well, portraying her as a “radical left lunatic” and criticizing her record on the U.S.-Mexico border. Trump’s campaign suggested that Biden’s record is also Harris’s record, holding her accountable for various issues. Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, also criticized Harris, calling her “whacky” and “out-of-touch.”
The Harris campaign responded to Trump’s attacks by calling him a “bitter, unhinged, 78-year-old convicted felon” and questioning if he even remembers who his opponent is. Despite Biden no longer being in the race, a New York Times/Siena poll showed Trump and Harris locked in a close race among likely voters. The results are within the margin of error, with 48% preferring Trump and 47% choosing Harris.
Overall, Trump’s rally in Minnesota showcased his continued focus on attacking Biden and Harris, despite the evolving landscape of the 2024 race. His campaign aims to highlight the shortcomings of the current administration and present Trump as a candidate who will uphold freedoms and democracy.
