Nevada men’s golf shows improvement but still has work to do

The Nevada men’s golf season came to an end, with the team completing its 2023-24 campaign under head coach Trake Carpenter. The team’s preseason expectations were low after failing to make an NCAA Regional berth for the first time in four years. Despite losing key players, the team hoped for improvement. The Wolf Pack participated in 11 tournaments, achieving two top-five finishes, including a victory at the UCSB Gaucho Invitational. Enrique Dimayuga was named Player of the Year after a standout season, winning three consecutive events and finishing third at the Saticoy Showdown. Nevada’s best win came at the UCSB Gaucho Invitational, marking their first team title since 2021. The team finished tied for fifth out of 11 teams at the Mountain West Championships, improving from the year prior. The season started slowly, but momentum picked up in the spring, culminating in a B-minus grade for the season overall. Despite finishing 105th nationally, up from 149th the previous year, there is still room for growth to reach the program’s previous standards. The Wolf Pack may face challenges next season as they anticipate the potential loss of three senior starters. Carpenter’s second season as head coach showed progress, indicating promise for the team’s future. For more insights on Northern Nevada sports, contact sports columnist Chris Murray.
