Kassidy Cook and Sarah Bacon won silver in the women’s 3-meter synchronized springboard event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, securing America’s first medal of the games. Their score of 314.64 put them on the podium for the first time since 2012, between gold medalists from China and bronze medalists from Great Britain. The duo, known as Cook N’ Bacon, have been friends since childhood and diving together since 2019, which they credited to their success. Cook, who competed in Rio in 2016, described the feeling of winning a medal with her best friend as amazing. Bacon, who narrowly missed making the U.S. team for Tokyo, said this disappointment turned out to be a blessing as it kept her in diving and led her to win a silver medal in Paris. The Chinese duo led throughout the event, putting pressure on Bacon and Cook to perform their best. However, seeing the Chinese team hit their dives motivated the American duo to do the same and ultimately secure the silver medal. This win was also significant as it was Team USA’s first medal of the games and marked only the second time in Olympic history that a non-Chinese duo won in this event. Both divers expressed their joy and gratitude at winning silver and credited their friendship and perseverance for their success.
