Ranking the success of Mountain West football programs since the formation of current membership in 2013.

The Mountain West Conference has seen consistent football membership over the past 11 seasons, making it the longest active run of membership without a change among all FBS conferences. With the upcoming 2024 season approaching, a detailed analysis of the most successful teams in the conference since the membership was formed in 2013 has been conducted.

Based on a point system that awarded points to teams based on their regular-season standings and performance in conference championship games, Boise State emerged as the frontrunner with 128 points, having clinched four titles and three runner-up finishes. San Diego State and Fresno State followed closely behind with 101 and 91.5 points, respectively, each having secured multiple conference titles.

Surprisingly, Utah State claimed the fourth spot with 89 points, despite being closely associated with Nevada in terms of budget. Nevada, ranked ninth in the standings, has yet to play in a MW conference championship game, highlighting room for growth for the program.

The analysis also revealed the need to eliminate divisions in the conference, as “Mountain” teams dominated the top spots. With some teams consistently performing below expectations, there is potential for growth and improvement within the MW football landscape.
