Officials Express Concern over Increasing Dengue Fever Cases in Adjacent States

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning local health care providers about the rising number of dengue fever cases in the U.S. While there are currently no cases in southern Nevada, neighboring states have reported cases, leading to concerns among health officials. Dr. Preethi Kumar, chief clinical officer at Reliant Physicians, emphasized the importance of increasing awareness about dengue fever, its symptoms, and preventative measures like using mosquito repellent and avoiding stagnant water.

Symptoms of dengue fever include fever, body aches, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and a rash. Severe cases may involve bleeding from the gums or mouth. It typically takes about two weeks for symptoms to appear after being bitten by an infected mosquito, and they can last for two to seven days. Additionally, some individuals may be asymptomatic despite being infected.

The CDC map of 2024 dengue fever cases in the U.S. raises concerns about the possibility of the disease spreading to Nevada. However, health officials reassure the public that they are well-prepared to handle any potential cases by increasing awareness, educating the public about symptoms, and encouraging preventative measures. The key focus is on early detection, prompt treatment, and taking precautions to prevent further spread of the disease.
