Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen, along with Senator James Lankford, recently co-hosted a roundtable discussion with college students to address the issue of rising antisemitism on college campuses. The discussion took place in Washington on July 25, 2024, just before the start of the new school year. Rosen and Lankford, who co-chair the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, met with six students who shared their experiences of facing antisemitism during the previous school year.
According to the Anti-Defamation League, 73 percent of Jewish college students have experienced or witnessed some form of prejudice since the start of the school year, with incidents increasing following the Hamas attack on Israel. The senators are deeply engaged in combating antisemitism, with their recent roundtable discussion showcasing their commitment to creating safe and inclusive environments on college campuses.
The students expressed gratitude for the senators’ work on the Countering Antisemitism Act, a bipartisan bill introduced earlier in the year. The legislation aims to establish a national coordinator to counter domestic antisemitism and operate within the White House. One student highlighted the importance of this legislation, as many Jewish students do not feel physically safe on their campuses.
Rosen and Lankford have been actively involved in fighting antisemitism, with the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism focusing on education and community empowerment. The roundtable discussion serves as a testament to the senators’ dedication to addressing the issue and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all students, regardless of their identity or beliefs.
