Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford has appealed the dismissal of criminal charges against six individuals accused of being fake electors in the state’s 2020 presidential election. The charges were dismissed by Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus in June, citing jurisdictional issues. Ford expressed confidence in the case and is looking to bring these individuals to justice.
The six defendants, James DeGraffenreid, Durward Hindle, Jesse Law, Michael McDonald, Shawn Meehan, and Eileen Rice, faced felony charges for offering false instruments for filing and uttering forged instruments. They were set to stand trial in January. Nevada is one of seven states where Republican electors falsely claimed that former President Donald Trump had won the election, despite Joe Biden’s victory.
The Nevada Republican Party welcomed the dismissal of the charges in June. The attorney general’s office is determined to pursue the case and hold these individuals accountable for their actions. The appeal has been made to the Nevada Supreme Court in hopes of overturning the dismissal and proceeding with the trial.
The case highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding the 2020 election and the efforts to ensure the integrity of the electoral process. Ford’s commitment to pursuing justice in this matter underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law in Nevada.
