Eight Nevada athletes make hometown proud, represent Team USA at Paris 2024 Olympics


Eight homegrown Nevada athletes are proudly representing Team USA at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. These athletes, hailing from cities such as Las Vegas, Boulder City, and Reno, are competing in various events such as swimming, taekwondo, badminton, track, BMX freestyle, and rugby.

Among these athletes is first-time Olympian Alexis Lagan, who is competing in the air pistol event. Returning Olympians Katie Grimes and Claire Weinstein, both from Las Vegas, are also participating in swimming events. Another Las Vegas native, Faith Dillon, is competing in taekwondo for her first Olympic appearance.

Beiwen Zhang, a top-ranked women’s badminton singles player, is already making waves in the competition. Vashti Cunningham, a track athlete from Las Vegas, aims to break the American record and secure a gold medal in Paris.

Two athletes from the northern part of the state, Perris Benegas in BMX freestyle and Stephanie Rovetti in rugby, are also representing their hometown of Reno in their respective events.

The athletes expressed their pride in representing their communities and the state of Nevada on the international stage.
