Missing Dog, Gizmo, Reunited with Family in Las Vegas After 9 Years

Judith Monarrez received the miraculous news that her missing pet dog, Gizmo, had been found alive after nine years. Two-year-old Gizmo had slipped past a faulty gate in their Las Vegas backyard in 2015. Over the next decade, Monarrez never stopped searching for her beloved pet. Now 37, she earned a master’s degree and started a teaching career. When she received an email notification that Gizmo had been found and taken to an animal hospital, she was overcome with emotion.

Monarrez quickly reunited with Gizmo, calling it a miracle. The timing coincided with an upcoming new Las Vegas city ordinance requiring pet owners to microchip their animals. Gizmo’s return brought mixed emotions as the years apart had clearly taken a toll on him. The Chihuahua showed signs of fear and physical ailments, such as limping, eye infections, and missing teeth. Despite the changes, Monarrez knew immediately it was Gizmo when she saw him and he responded to his name.

Now, Monarrez and her family are focused on addressing Gizmo’s health issues and giving him the love they had held onto for years. They are grateful for the reunion and determined to provide him with the care he needs. The experience has reinforced the importance of microchipping pets, as it played a crucial role in Gizmo’s return after so many years apart.
