Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo announced that the Seine River is clean enough for Olympic swimmers after a $1.5 billion effort to clean it up for the Paris Games. Despite recent water tests showing unsafe levels of E. coli, readings have since improved, leading to the mayor’s declaration. The festive atmosphere in Paris for the Olympics was disrupted by malicious acts targeting France’s high-speed rail network, causing disruptions before the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony itself is set to be the most ambitious in Olympic history, with athletes parading down the Seine River in boats instead of in a stadium. The ceremony will pass by famous Paris landmarks before ending near the Eiffel Tower. Viewers can watch the opening ceremony live on NBC, Peacock, and the NBC Olympics apps at 1:30 p.m. ET, with a preview show starting at noon ET. The ceremony is expected to last four-and-a-half hours. The NBC News live blogging team will provide updates throughout the day.
