Billy Joel performed his 150th show at Madison Square Garden, marking the end of his decade-long residency at the iconic New York City venue. Joel became the first music franchise at MSG in 2013 and performed one show a month for over 10 years. He broke multiple records, including most consecutive performances by an artist and most lifetime performances at MSG. Joel has been joined on stage by various surprise guests, such as Bruce Springsteen and Miley Cyrus, during his residency. The venue honored Joel with banners celebrating his records for consecutive performances and lifetime performances. A new exhibit called “Defining Moments” showcased memorabilia from Joel’s MSG shows, including his harmonicas and signature sunglasses. Fans at his final concert had the chance to enjoy themed concessions and write messages to Joel at a photo station. Over 1.9 million tickets were sold to fans from around the world during his MSG tenure. Joel also participated in benefit concerts at MSG, raising money for Hurricane Sandy and 9/11 victims and heroes. Joel announced his final show at MSG in November 2023, bringing his legendary run at the venue to a close.
